Epiphany

When I awoke this morning at 4:45 and couldn't go back to sleep my mind took off, as it often does. I find that I sometimes have the most brilliant insights in the wee hours of the morning. This was my epiphany du jour.

I am overweight okay, I'll just use the "F" word, I'm fat. Much of my life is spent thinking my way out of being fat but doing little (okay nothing) about it in reality. So as I lay in bed this morning I thought about working out, eating healthy, and all the other things I should be doing. I also moved on to beating myself up about other areas of my life. I don't talk to my mother enough, My house is not a wreck, but I do leave a lot of stuff lying around that I would be happier to have put away. I also dwelt on the self-indulgent side of my personality, which as you've probably figured out, gets it's way a bit too often.

Then I had an epiphany. It is all about balance. I narrowed my focus to five areas that seemed to encompass the areas I should address daily.

  1. Contact with loved ones (Spending time with those I love)
  2. Physical well-being (Eating well and exercise for starters)
  3. Making the world a better place (Helping others)
  4. Living well (Care and maintenance of stuff)
  5. Fun (Doing something for the joy it brings in the moment)
My life is out of balance. I need activities in all five of these areas each day, but realized that I often go for long periods of time ignoring one or another.

I am a list-maker. This works well for me on the job. It keeps me focused, on task and I get lots done during the day. So I thought about using my list making skills a little more in my personal life. On my daily "to do" list I would include something from each of the five areas. I know this doesn't guarantee that it will get done, but it at least gets me thinking and planning to do it.

I am planning to use this blog to explore each of these areas more fully and chart my progress in becoming a better me. So on today's list I can check off, 1. Create blog  from my "Making the world a better place" category. ;-)

I was going to refer to this as "Intentional Living" but that has already been trademarked. I also thought of the more fanciful "Charting My Path" but alas that too had been taken. Who knew finding a name for a blog could be so difficult? So I ended up with Fat 2 Fab in 5 Easy Steps (A Fantasy). It suited my sense of whimsy and no one else wanted it. Imagine!
